2010 'Florida Book Awards' competition begins with call for entries
The Florida Book Awards has kicked off its fifth annual competition with a call for entries in eight categories including a brand new Visual Arts category.
Regional partnership receives STEMflorida 2010 STEM program awards
The regional partnership formed in 2008 by Florida State University Panama City, Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division, AT&T, Bay District Schools, Gulf County Schools and Holmes District School Board was recognized for excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education and delivery by STEMflorida at the organization’s 2010 STEM Business & Education Conference held in Orlando on July 25-27. STEMflorida is a business-led initiative to make Florida a leader in market relevant STEM talent development and retention.

Florida State libraries obtain more than 350 free books through Library of Congress' surplus-books program
Florida State University librarians recently selected more than 350 books from the Library of Congress’ surplus-books program to add to the university’s collections. Shipment of the books from Washington, D.C., to Tallahassee without cost to Florida State was made possible by the office of U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd (D-North Florida), which provided franking slips for use on the shipping boxes.
