Florida’s Financial Crisis — An Unnatural Disaster
Suggested Message to the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission

Amendment 1 began the process of property tax reform. Let's now get rid of another tax-- the Required Local Effort (RLE) that comprises up to 30% of our tax bill and, at the same time, guarantee access to higher education for our current and future children by stabilizing higher education. We can accomplish this without raising our sales tax by simply eliminating some of the many exemptions that have crept into our system over time.

Reforming the sales tax will provide funds to remove the RLE from property owners, allow everyone to share the cost and provide enough funds to guarantee a place in one of our higher education systems for every student.

If you agree, please take a moment to contact members of the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission and allow everyone in Florida to vote on this proposal.

Dear Commissioner:

I hope you will support the constitutional amendment proposed by President Wetherell. Your support will allow the citizens of this state to be heard. Citizens should have a say in determining how to fund our educational systems in Florida. We need to ensure our children have a quality education and that they have access to our community colleges and universities.
Sincerely,
John and Jane Q. Citizen
