FSU Circus celebrates 60th anniversary with annual Homeshows

It is a monumental year for the Florida State University Flying High Circus, which kicked off its 60th anniversary celebration April 6-7. One of the oldest traditions and co-educational activities at FSU, the Flying High Circus will end its 60th annual Homeshow series April 13 and 14 under its own Big Top tent.

These on-campus performances, featuring an array of aerial and stage presentations by FSU students, attract thousands of Tallahassee residents each year, as well as guests from around the state of Florida and the entire Southeast. They are famous for providing wholesome family entertainment for children of all ages.

Billed as "the Greatest Collegiate Show on Earth," Flying High performances are world-renowned. With jaw-dropping routines rivaling those of professional circus troupes, the FSU Circus provides quality entertainment for the entire family.

According to Director Richard Brinson, FSU Circus shows are sure to inspire. "Our members are always working to increase their skills and improve their routines," he said. "This dedication is reflected in performances, which constantly draw gasps and applause from the audience."

This spring's shows will be especially significant. In addition to commemorating Flying High's rich history and milestone anniversary, the Circus will bid farewell to Brinson, who is retiring after 35 years as Flying High Circus director.

"This year is important for so many reasons," Brinson said. "I have no doubt that our shows this April will be some of our best and most exciting to date."

The weekend of April 13-14 also features a Circus Alumni Association 60th Anniversary Gala and Benefit.

Tickets for the Flying High Circus can be purchased online (www.circus.fsu.edu), by phone (1-800-757-2146) or at the FSU Fine Arts Building Ticket Office. The Friday performance is at 7 p.m. and Saturday performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
