Dunlap Student Success Center dedicated
The Albert J. and Judith A. Dunlap Student Success Center, home to the Center for Leadership and Civic Education and the Career Center, was dedicated Sept. 19. The Career Center helps students clarify and implement their educational plans and career goals, while the Center for Leadership and Civic Education helps them find opportunities for community involvement and service. Students also have opportunities to learn about and practice how to become more effective leaders.
In addition, the 47,000-square-foot Dunlap Student Success Center includes classrooms, meeting rooms, computer labs, offices for individual career advising, a comprehensive career library and space for the headquarters of student organizations, such as Alternative Break Corps and the FSU chapter of Habitat for Humanity. It is conveniently located next to the Askew Student Life Building in the heart of campus.
"The Dunlap Success Center represents a dream come true," said Vice President for Student Affairs Mary Coburn. " It was first envisioned during the summer of 2004 when we hoped to create a facility for where students can learn, serve and lead in order to make their dreams come true." In the Dunlap Success Center, students will discover their majors, careers, purpose in life and passions; they will join fellow students in projects to make a difference in others' lives; and they will realize their own goals and dreams. Because of the opportunities in this Center, FSU students will join alumni around the world by leading for the greater good.
The Dunlap Student Success Center was made possible by the generosity of Albert and Judith Dunlap. Part of the Dunlaps' $5 million gift, which is eligible for state matching funds, helped pay for the $13.8 million building.
